Senior Legal Counsel – Construction

Location: St. Louis, MO (on-site)

Salary: $180,000 – 220,000 base + 10-20% discretionary bonus.

Position Overview:
We are working with a real estate development and design-build organization providing services across development, planning, architecture, engineering, and construction throughout North America. They are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support their expanding operations. This role is ideal for a legal professional with experience negotiating and managing construction contracts throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will be confident working with subcontract agreements, prime contracts, and industry-standard forms such as AIA, ConsensusDocs, and DBIA, while providing legal guidance on change orders, claims, contract administration, and dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review, draft and negotiate construction subcontracts, purchase orders, master service agreements, and other project-related contracts.
• Evaluate requests for proposals (RFPs), bid packages, and supporting contractual documentation while assisting with the preparation of procurement materials.
• Provide legal support for project change orders, contract amendments, and dispute resolution as issues arise during construction.
• Partner with the General Counsel to manage contract-related claims, including delay claims, substantial completion disputes, and matters progressing through mediation, arbitration, or litigation.
• Interpret and advise on construction contracts, supplier agreements, purchase orders, AIA standard forms, and related contractual obligations.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
• Two to four years of legal experience involving construction and real estate matters.
• Strong understanding of commercial construction agreements, supplier and subcontractor contracts, AIA contract documents, and purchase order administration.
