Associate / Counsel — Texas Energy Regulatory & Litigation
Level: Associate to Counsel
Location: Austin or Dallas, TX
Practice: Energy Regulatory & Litigation (Electric Power)
The Opportunity
A leading law firm is expanding its Texas energy practice and is seeking an attorney at the associate or counsel level, based in either Austin or Dallas, to focus on regulatory and litigation matters across the Texas energy market. The work centers on the electric power sector, spanning solar, storage, wind, and data center projects — some of the most active and fast-growing areas in the Texas energy landscape.
This is a substantive, high-visibility role offering direct involvement in sophisticated regulatory and contested-case matters, with strong exposure to developers, sponsors, lenders, and investors across the power sector.
What You’ll Do
- Handle regulatory and contested-case matters before the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), the Railroad Commission of Texas (RCT), ERCOT, FERC, and Texas courts
- Represent clients in litigation and disputes across the electric utility and power sectors
- Advise on and litigate eminent domain matters on behalf of condemning authorities and landowners
- Support rate, tariff, complaint, investigation, rulemaking, and certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) proceedings
- Conduct legal research, draft pleadings and motions, manage discovery, and prepare for hearings, including work involving technical testimony
What We’re Looking For
- Associate to counsel level, with experience in regulatory or litigation matters across the Texas energy market
- Essential: experience involving eminent domain, electric utilities, the power industry, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, FERC, or the Railroad Commission of Texas
- Strong litigation fundamentals — discovery, pleadings, motions, hearings, and legal research
- Familiarity with the electric industry generally; experience with technical testimony is an advantage
- Strong analytical, drafting, and client-facing skills
- Admission to the Texas bar (or ability to waive in)
Why This Role
- Work at the center of one of the most active energy markets in the country
- Sophisticated, high-quality regulatory and litigation work in the electric power sector
- Direct exposure to developers, sponsors, lenders, and investors
- Genuine progression opportunity and the ability to build a profile in a growing practice
- Choice of Austin or Dallas as a base
