Attorney-at-Law / Patent Attorney – Intellectual Property & Patent Litigation

Location: Munich, Germany (or Düsseldorf)

Our client, a leading US law firm with a highly regarded international Intellectual Property and Patent Litigation practice, is seeking to hire an Attorney-at-Law and/or Patent Attorney for its Munich office.

The firm advises global market leaders on complex patent and technology disputes across a diverse range of industries, with particular strength in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device sectors. The team also represents clients in automotive engineering, aerospace, electronics, telecommunications, software, and advanced manufacturing matters. Their practice spans the full lifecycle of patent law, including strategic portfolio development, patent prosecution, licensing, and high-stakes cross-border litigation before international courts and regulatory authorities.

You will join a dynamic and internationally recognised IP team and will work on sophisticated, multi-jurisdictional patent matters for major international clients.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting in the preparation of court filings, pleadings, and other legal documentation
• Advising on opposition and grant proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Patent and Trademark Office (DPMA)
• Supporting invalidity and enforcement proceedings before the Federal Patent Court, Federal Court of Justice, and the Unified Patent Court (UPC)
• Assessing the patentability of innovative technologies and developing strategic IP protection approaches
• Drafting and prosecuting patent applications and related submissions
• Supporting complex patent litigation and infringement matters, including evidence gathering and technical analysis
• Managing deadlines, coordinating filings, and overseeing case documentation and portfolio administration

Candidate Profile: The firm is particularly interested in candidates with:

• Strong analytical, drafting, and client management abilities
• A collaborative and commercially minded approach to problem-solving
• A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or a related technical discipline is preferred 
• Qualification as a German Patent Attorney and/or Attorney-at-Law
• Experience in patent prosecution, patent litigation, or broader intellectual property matters
• Excellent German and English communication skills
