Senior Associate / Counsel — FERC Electric Regulatory
Level: Senior Associate to Counsel (fourth year and above)
Practice: Energy Regulatory (FERC)
Location: Primarily Washington D.C. – Flexible across the firm’s US offices (hybrid — must be within ~2 hours of an office for occasional in-person meetings)
The Opportunity
A leading international law firm is seeking a senior associate or counsel to join its growing energy regulatory practice, with a primary focus on FERC electric regulatory matters. This is a high-impact role working directly alongside the partner who leads the practice group, supporting a fast-growing team with strong momentum and a clear runway for progression.
The successful candidate will work in a senior, client-facing capacity — plugging into an established practice, taking real ownership from day one, and adding value quickly. It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who wants more visibility and responsibility than they might find elsewhere, with genuine scope to build their profile both internally and in the wider market.
What You’ll Do
- Advise clients on FERC electric regulatory matters, with the opportunity to support gas regulatory work as well
- Work as a right-hand to the practice leader, helping to manage matters and drive them forward
- Support transactional work connected to the practice, including project finance and debt finance mandates
- Take on client-facing responsibility, including participation in pitches and direct client interaction
- Help build and mentor a multi-layered team, training and supporting more junior lawyers as the practice grows
What We’re Looking For
- Fourth year and above — senior associate or counsel level — with electric regulatory experience
- A strong FERC regulatory background; candidates coming directly from FERC, or from an RTO / ISO (e.g. PJM or similar), are a particularly strong fit
- Exposure to both electric and gas sectors is ideal but not required
- Transactional experience is a bonus
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and to work independently
- Comfort with client pitches and client-facing work
- Admission to a US bar; ability to be within ~2 hours of an office for occasional in-person meetings
Why This Role
- Work directly with the partner who leads the practice, in a genuinely senior capacity
- Strong, clearly signposted progression opportunity toward counsel or partner
- More client-facing exposure than comparable roles elsewhere
- Real scope to build your profile internally and externally
- Flexibility on office location across the firm’s US network, with a hybrid working model
